I am looking to buy 20 or so rounds of 8x57I (.318 dia bullet) for my old small ring Mauser for an upcoming hunting trip. I plan to load for it soon but time is too short to order dies and work up a load. Any sources would be appreciated.

If nothing else surfaces, I have one 20 round box of new 8x57J (.318) rimless spear point, 200 gr. from Quality Cartridge.

Postoak American made commercial 8mm Mauser ammo is loaded to be safe in these rifles.Remington used .3215"( instead of .323")bullets and lower pressures, so their ammo would be safe in these rifles.Buy ammo at local store and save the brass for handloading. Mike

Unfortunately the commerical 8x57IS ammo that I have Remington, Winchester, and S&B will not chamber in the rifle, but a single round of 90 year old 8x57I that I have will. I did a chamber cast also - it has a really tight neck.
Thanks all !

I stand corrected on a previous post about 8x57 mauser ammo. Thank you, Mike for miking it out...no pun intended. I found the same thing with regard to 9.3x72 ammo by S&B--it is .358! So I am not surprised by the Remington safety margin, just didn't know. I wonder if it leaves the bore prone to gas cutting? Steve

Post oak See my comments to B.Dudley on the other thread, about Buffalo Arms. His question was similar to yours. Steve White, It seems S&B changed dia.of their 9.3x72R bullets, over the years.I pulled one of their older bullets(berdan primed case)to measure when preparing my article on loading the 9.3. It was .365 (vs .364 for RWS),as I recall, and some one else later reported finding them to be .366.Curious. Mike
