Its a piece of junk. It is a Brummie sxs sidelock non-ejector (pics below). The rib says "Lyon & Lyon Ltd. Calcutta Forester Gun". It has 30 inch barrels and 2 3/4 inch chambers. The butt and forend (Deeley Latch) are locally made. Someone has taken a stonemason's chisel to the engraving which probably was not great shakes anyway. Gold has been added to the "Forester Gun" on the sideplates. It looks quite elegant at a distance, but isn't worth toffee close up. It is mine and shoots like a dream. I know Lyon and Lyon only sold guns and have always wondered who actually made it? Thanks for any help. All the best Skeeterbd

Can't really get a good detailed look at the locks, but the gun looks very "Bonehill'ish" to me.

Looks like a low grade Birmingham Frederick Beesley if I had to take a guess.
I don't see any indication that it is a Scott from the aesthetics of the gun.
Hmm. Might be a low grade Rogers gun. I'm going to go with that, Rogers. I've owned several best guns from Rogers (labeled as Grant, Lang, and others) that followed the same action styles. That's my guess.

I'm fairly certain that Bonehill was the maker. http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/16876/lot/259/The locks are simple coil spring locks correct?

The locks are back action V spring locks.
Thank you again for your continued interest.
Rook hawk
It might well be a Rogers action. It certainly is no best (not that you said it was)!
With Bonehill and Beesley this thing might have better antecedents than I thought. Not that it matters, apart from my sheer interest in trying to find out who actually made it. It has mutatedenough to be nothing but a very ordinary shooter, which role it fulfills very well.
Thanks again for any help
All the best

Im still 99% sure that your gun was made by CG Bonehill. With all due respect to Rookhawk and your gun, Im also 99% sure that F. Beesley of St. James Street, London had absolutely nothing to do with the manufacture of this shotgun.

Rogers possibly, never sen a Bonehill that rough . Been restocked by the looks and I suspect the engraving is more recent.Had one very similar many years ago . I have seen a fair number of similar with different names on them ,some not named at all .Other possible makers could be Fredrick Williams or Wards .

To my eye it doesn't look 'English'. I know it says Made in England and such but is that a guarentee? English Birmingham proof marks but you will find those on any Winchester/Remington or Baikal gun you buy here. In fact most Baikals I find are proofed in London. I would like to get Smallbore's take on this one. Lagopus.....
