I posted a thread some while ago about this gun but without pics. I know the rough knowledge about Moore and his history in New York and brief sojourn in Canada. What else can anyone tell me about this gun. I am curious about the name of the man who choked the gun and if putting the name on the barrels in this manner was at all common. Also the butt plate, I expect is not original but I believe is horn. Barrels have been rust blued but the action and stock have not been touched yet but are about to be cleaned up.

Whoops I thought it would be easy to post the pics. Can I post them directly to the thread?

Unfortunately photo bucket seems to have taken a disliking of me and will not allow me to log on. I will have to seek out another host.

Surely there is someone who can shed a bit more light on the gun.

Tamid:

You seem to be a repeat offender on these. Where in the world are you finding them? Below is a thread Moore & I would suspect that both J. Henry & J. Holman(Hamilton?) were either in the employment of Moore or Daly or a subcontractor. Choke would have been applied to the Birmingham sourced hammer double in the U.S. of A. or Canada. Note he leaves the E out of bored?

I've seen a listing(1885-1886?) for Hamilton Gun Works, proprietor J. Holman of 79 James Street(North?) in Hamilton(City of Hamilton, Ontario) but I'm not sure where that is and would suspect Canada for the boring effort?

Kind Regards,

Tamid,
J.P.Moore & Co; 1884-1886 Toronto.Gunsmiths, importers and Wholesale dealers in guns, etc;.The heads of the firm were J.P.Moore and W.S.Miniszek.
Your gun is a low end 12G Birmingham hammer gun proof tested as a 13G.

First, I'm puzzled by the name John Phenix Moore being at the helm or in management in 1884 as info suggests he passed in 1881. As far as I know he did not have a son named J.P. Moore but his sister had a son named John Phenix Moore Richards and possibly it is he that is referred. W.S. Miniszek may also have been in management but I for now I hold that Schoverling, Daly & Gales owned the concern.

Kind Regards,

Raimey
