Ihave G grades of 20K & 29K ranges & the pattern is different on the two. The 29K one looks more like Silver's bbls & the earlier one looks more like Researcher's Baltimore Arms bbls. I believe this early type is the type 8-bore is referring to. I have simply not studied this enough to say which is the most commonly found on a G grade, or perhaps even another pattern entirely.

Your right Tanky, more often then not the C-/CE-Grade Remington Model 1894s had the Etoile Damascus.

Did anyone save the twist/damascus thread complete with pictures?
I curse myself I never saved it to hard drive, now all the pics have gone.
BTW those barrels look much the same as those on my Husqvarna,which are probably Belgian.

I have exacly the same pattern on my LC Smith 16g.field made 1898.
Its a very strong damask made in Belgium.(They don't use that pattern to their own lowprice guns)I havn't seen any.

The pic I posted is the same one as on the RGS Lefever thread. The barrels are on my Syracuse Lefever, G grade, s/n range 20,xxx. I took off the barrels last night and looked at the bottom of the breeches but there are no Mfr. markings there. Silvers

Pete M,s Remington barrels are of the star damascus type.[ The pictures in the photo bucket of damascus barrels are similar to those seen in the Liege Arms Museum.]
Star damascus is created by constructing a billet of approximately 100 iron and steel flat strips and bars. The bars are arranged in a pattern such that the star seen in the finished product is developed. The billet is then heated in a furnace and passed through a rolling mill which reduces it in size to a cross section of approx; .20x.36 inches. This is then rolled out into bars approx; 14.5 ft; long.It is these bars that are twisted and hammer forged around a mandrel to form the barrel blank. [ie:The familiar picture of damascus forging seen in many gun books] A booklet, "Le Damas", written by Mr, Jean Puraye, Curator of the Liege Museum of Arms and published by them is your best source of information on damascus barrel manufacture. [Unfortunately written in Flemish.] If you have access to the American Rifleman, April 1976, an authorised, [shortened by 1/3] , version of Mr Purayes booklet is to be found on pages 25-28.

Yep, this is two bar Crolle also called Prince Albert style because it looks similar to his Moustache.

I loaned my copy to Abby at Cornell Publishing. She has the reprint of "Le Damas" for sale. I get nothing from this. Just thought it good to get it out there. Keep hoping that some one who is fluent will get ambitious and translate it...

I have tracked down a salesman's piece from Liege that has pictures of 20 various damascus types to choose from. IF I can get it, I will scan it and post a link here.

Here are a couple of Pictures of my 1892 Vintage Lefever with "Star" or Etoille barrels. Note the five or 6 little stars in circles and the larger Star between the bands
