Obviously the "layering" I was referring to is the standard copper/nickle/chrome that sparkles. I recall seeing electron micrographs that show the little chromies snuggled right down in between the components of the steelies. A couple molecules thick is no problem and the .00005" that ChuckH quotes is pretty heavy duty.
