a number of years ago I found an old side by side at a rummage sale. a double hammer gun with a set of 30 inch damascas barrels. Very old, but all works, pretty nice wood, nothing special though as far as engraving, but a nice old gun that went into my closet. Years later I heard of a friend that had a special Daly that had crossed pistols with a crown under the forestock. I had never removed it, so I found the gun where I put it and looked. They are there, the serial number is 1846. Any thoughts on what this might be?

Really like to see some images, especially of the locks and any marks besides the "Crowned Crossed Pistols" like a set of initials just ahead of the flats close to the lower rib. Also I expect to see the preliminary Birmingham proofmarks on the pattern welded tubes. Email the images & I'll gladly post them for you. You would happen to race around the oval would you?
Kind Regards,

Since I am new to this Website I don't see a way to attach pictures and I cannot copy and paste into this reply. I also don't see an attachment icon. What is the best way to send you these pictures?
I took a lot of pictures but saw no initials or special markings. But the gun is old and I may not be looking in the right place. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Bill, just email them to me and I'll post them for you. In the Doublegun facts section, 2nd thread category, there is a thread on posting images. My email is in my profile and check your messages.

To clean you can use Ballistol or Kroil and I think copper wool? M4 told me but I can't recall. Odd that it is devoid of engraving and has the slim forend hanger. Hugo Kolb, who might have been an uncle to H.A. Lindner, was performing the tap, tap, tap for the Lindners at this time. I'd guess it to be post 1874. Fritz Heimbeck wasn't employed for say another 16 years. Being devoid of any tube knitter's initials(they may be hidden under the rib), I would guess that H.A. Lindner contributed a large effort here and that the intent might have been there for an agent or Schoverling & Daly firearms merchant to adorn it.
Kind Regards,

Wow, no proof marks! I guess that dates it a bit...Most Prussian guns I have seen had the little soldier, not the crossed pistols...
