One thing I always do when buying a gun online is to take a good look at the sellers feedback. I just bought a gun on Gunbroker that is in transit from a guy with 400 positive feedbacks no negatives and who has been selling online for years. I'm not very concerned about this transaction.

Street or road # address, residential landline (tested before the sale), willingness to describe and measure the gun, patience with a paranoid's laundry list of questions about condition, a right of return with conditions stated up front; all help build a profile of a seller and his intentions. I doubt that asking for and probably paying for a condition report from an FFL holder whom you do not know promises much more than a second individual whose bona fides are also unknown. Feedback has helped me do some vetting at GB. A gazillion positive feedbacks means very little if there are also three to five negatives. A couple of those may be screwball buyers but probably not all. I've had the best luck with sellers with 10 to 20 sales of guns which indicate a specific area of interest and a more or less consistent quality and price level. Says the seller isn't a ragpicker or flea market recycler.

Good Point! As ANY instance of multiple negative feedbacks should be viewed as big red flags and with utmost suspicion.

I've never bought anything real "good" from an auction site. I've seen guns in person that supposedly had the dimensions I would give to a custom stockmaker, for a gun of my own, that simply didn't fit. I'm at a loss as to why, but, it killed the sale.
I have purchased a few "lesser" guns over the net, including a 16 gauge Ithaca 37, from a private seller, that was too good to be true, a very nice gun for $225, shipped. Sometimes, you win.
But, I haven't exactly pushed my luck. I can't afford to anymore.

Jim Five would raise a concern for me, but one is not so bad. People will intentionally ruin a guy with negative feedbacks for no reason at all.

Well, for twenty some odd guns or so, I for one have had very good luck, knock on wood, with GunBroker purchases. Like the lady said in A Streetcar Named Desire: "I have always relied upon the kindness of strangers"...Geo

Did I miss something here? The gun should go for an inspection by your gunsmith or a mutually agreed on 'smith. If the seller doesn't want to without full payment then the hell with him. You pick up the tab on this cost but do not pay for the gun till you have that report.
