For those of you interested in a refined linseed oil finish, I'm happy to report that Linspeed brand stock finish is back on the market. I used this as a final finish for many years because it give the look of linseed but dries fast and hard.
Here is an excerpt from an email from the company's Owner.
"As it regards your question on Lin-Speeds makeup - the base oil Lin-Speed is made from is a highly refined linseed oil. In its raw form it is the color and consistency of honey. I mix this thick oil with mineral spirits and other proprietary ingredients to make Lin-Speed. It is a unique product that was invented by George V.V. Brothers of Great Barrington, Massachusetts back in the early 1950's. So as you can see it is really not polyurethane at all but a real oil finish."
They can be contacted at: Lin-Speed Oil <linspeedoil@yahoo.com>
for those of you that would like to obtain the product directly. I'll be testing and writing about Linspeed sometime in the future.
Best,
Steve
