Lats night a friend showed me a nice light 65mm 16ga, a French boxlock, barrels by Brunelle (sp?) I believe.
The top lever was engraved with the initials "MFB", we though this might be the owner until we took it apart and found "MFB" stamped on the watertable, the barrel flats and the barrels themselves. Haven't heard of anyone vain enough to do that so I suspect it may be the maker.
This gun also has the retractable sling in the buttstock.
Any ideas? I looked on littlegun and I couldn't find a match. It's definitely "MFB" not "MAB"

Hello Rob, Found for auction at a French Auction House lot #679: double made by MFB, Darne system in St. Étienne (stéphanoise). No photo malheureusement. JC

Thanks JC, nice to know there's one other. The one I saw is a standard boxlock, not a Darne system.

Could the barrels possibly have been by Breuil? That's a ways off from your spelling, but Breuil seems to have made barrels for a lot of French guns.

Larry, would that be stamped Jacques Breuil? If so, I think you are correct.

The Breuil I know of is Jean Breuil. The barrels would be stamped JB. WC-

Woops. You're right, WC--mixing up my J French names. I have, however, seen Breuil spelled out on barrels as well as the JB.
