Hello,

I took it upon myself to improve my stock on the Baikal IZH43 / Remington SPR220 12 ga SXS I have.

I had the stock off to remove the annoying auto safety link, and clean up the action of the safety, really stiff and gritty.

And decided to clean up the stock.

I added a 1" Old English Decelerator pad (Black) and removed the Bakolite / platic original.
I also filed and defined the "chevrons" on either side of the action.
I cut the pistol grip flat and recontoured the stock to make the pistol grip a real pistol grip. ( Added notch behind the PG )
The existing was kind of a modified Prince of Wales.
Not a knob, but not a pistol grip either.
I also straightened the lines of the stock, It had a belly and a hump back.
Stripped old finish and am applying several coats of Tung oil.

I will post pictures of the final product.

It is good wood, but was way to dark to see anything.

Has anyone else done similar ?
Please post your results.

Thanks
Nitro

Nitro, I did the same thing with mine, with the exception of using Tru-Oil. After 5 or 6 full days of walking through the woods, my sweaty hands stripped the finish clean from the forend and most of the pistol grip! The action inside was coated with some sort of grease that was reddish colored. I used brake parts cleaner and my air compressor to get the parts clean and dry. After a proper application of gun oil, it worked quite nicely. Cheers!
