i think victor sarasqueta made them. i had one in 20 and it was a quite decent gun. i've owned far worse that cost far, far more. the wood on mine was basic blah yellow basque walnut but a refinish with some pilkington english red dye improved looks about 1000%. at a decent price i'd buy one again in a blink.

but i've a) had better luck with and b) hold in higher regard low end spanish guns than some people do.

Well, I looked at the Zepher and it is a 16 ga it has the rabbit in th diamond on the watertable(i think thats what its called}, it is my understanding if it has the rabbit in the diamond it is a V. sarasquetta. I looked in Terry weiland's book Spanish Best on pg. 176 and it says the Woodlander was avail. in 12,20,.410, the one I saw was a 16, whats that about. According to my choke gauge, its IC/Mod. Still need to know a fair price to pay.

Hi, the Woodlander you are looking at was indeed made by Victor Sarasqueta and was imported by Stoeger. The 16ga is uncommon, but not rare. In the condition your taking about a fair price would be in the $500 area, + or -

While this was a price point gun, the guns made by V.S. were considered a good quality gun.

As this gun was imported by Stoeger some folks confuse this model with the current Uplander. The V.S. are head and shoulders above the current Uplander in quality.

All the best!

Greg

Definitely better stuff than the current Stoeger imports! About the only problem with the old Stoeger-imported Sarasquetas is that many of them had pistol grips and beavertails, which makes them somewhat heavier and not in the typical "game gun" style of straight stock/splinter you see on virtually all current Spanish imports. At least according to my 1961 Shooter's Bible, all the Woodlanders were PG/beavertail guns. 16ga, standard chokes were IC/M with 26" barrels, M/F with 28". Price in 1961 was $108, compared to $178 for the basic Sauer Model 60; $150 for the basic Bernardelli S. Uberto 1.

Yes, Victor was a very good maker. Here's one of his upperend guns. If it had a 'big' Spanish name on it, it would be selling for 10k

Stoeger imported about six to seven different shotguns made by Sarasqueta in the early to mid 60s, with the Woodlander being at the bottom. A few years later, Sarasqueta put a Greener crossdbolt on it and Stoeger jacked up the price up by an extra $10. I was saving my pennies to buy one when I was in school, but I ended up buying a used Browning Superposed the day after I came back from Viet Nam in 1970. One of the good things about it was that it came in 16 gauge, which is what my dad shot in his August Schuller side by. He used his for slaying birds and shooting clay pigeons on the trap line and skeet. He didn't miss that many.

I would have to agree with Greg. I have had a number of different models of Zephyrs in every gauge except 410 so far. Nice guns, especially for the money. I think the price range quoted is right on as well.
Enjoy
