This is not a pre-war custom but I had a chance to take some quick shots and thought it would pick up the traffic around here. It belongs to a hunting partner who has shot it but never hunted it. He's an addicted gun trader, some day it may be available if something he likes better shows up.

Just a nice little 7x57, no bells and whistles but looks well made and carries very well. Typical Teutonic preference to strength of grain flow over figure in the stock. I'd change out the scope and mounts, right now it wears a Nikon 1-5x20 in Weaver rings. Maybe put a front sight on for use with a back/up peep.

I imagine Mr. Jaeger lined up his screw slots and that they have all loosened over time.

Perhaps others could elaborate on how much of the work on this gun was just stock parts they used from their manufacturing business?

A nice rifle, thanks for posting the pictures. Someone should start collecting the Jaeger serial numbers and do some research on post war Jaeger.

I know little of Paul Jaeger after the war and I'm still putting together information pre-war. Over the years I have only located three "Philadelphia" marked Jaeger rifles. If anyone has one please let me know. I was lucky enough to find a pre-war Jaeger catalog which helped.

I know of three Jaeger markings:
1. Pre-war "P.JAEGER PHIL,PA."
2. Post-war location unknown "JAGER"
3. Post-war "PAUL JAEGER-JENKINTOWN,PA."

This rifle has about everything offered in the pre-war catalog including a single-set trigger.

Post-war rifles are more than welcome at this forum, if we stay away from Tupperware stocks I think we are on safe ground. A researcher could spend a lot of time just trying to sort out all the "Jaeger" scope mounts. Every time I think I have them figured out a new one shows up.

Engraved shotguns marketed out of the Jenkintown shop postwar are beginning to sell for some serious money. Plain rifles are still coming out at a pretty good rate within 100 miles of Jenkintown. I'm always on the lookout.

Did Jaeger engrave any kind of shotgun brought to him or did he work with a specific action?

There are at least two fellow who worked at Jaeger of Jenkintown still in or around the trade: Dietrich Apel and James Tucker. I think James told me he marked his barrels in the barrel channel, but I can't remember the details??!!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember the engraving Jeager was in Germany?

Jaegers with Mannlicher stocks gotta be scarce, have never seen one. Nice but looks unbalanced without a front sight.

Steve, I have had about three talks with Dietrick regarding Paul Jaeger. To be charitable let's just say it's not his favorite subject. Dietrick did send me a family tree that has helped some in sorting out the Jaegers. Paul Jaeger send guns to Kurt Jaeger who had them engraved in Germany. I don't think Kurt did the engraving.
