hmm, not sure why some of those did not come through. They do appear to be clickable however.

Steve, it appears that there is no such thing as an original idea anymore. That's an interesting gun, but not the sort of engraving that I had in mind (not that I exactly know what that is myself - yet). I do like the gold work - and I usually don't.
It sure could have been photographed much better though.
Thanks for the pointer, Brent

Lousy pix, I know the previous owner and although the ad says unfired, I shot that .470 once... and almost dropped the gun in recoil! Caught it with my left hand as it neared the ground. Haven't fired a .470 since. It looks a lot better up close, and an interesting theme, but I don't think the embellishment is helping the sale, it has been there for more than a year.

Man, I can imagine how that might have felt as you were reaching for the rifle!!! A near death experience, if it were me. I have never shot a .470 or anything close to it. An extra full house load in a .45-100 is enough for me. It is an interesting idea - esp since I thought of it on my very own But that particular execution seems mighty cluttered. Less is more in my book. (I guess that includes my pocket book too). Brent

Those cave paintings are the very soul of humanity. Twenty thousand years are as nothing, when our minds jump that space and time. While I no longer wish to slay such historic fauna, I would be honored to do so, with such a weapon, for an elder member of the sentient being tribes. whose time is come.
Give due respect to our ancients, and shoot true.
Relax; we're all experts here.

SDH- Funny story about the rifle, I did nearly the same thing to an SP Ducati (one of 50) 888 back in the early 90's got into a patch of sand and caught it with a boot, which continued to *also* slide while I kept the toe-dab firmly applied to the asphalt. Didn't nick the bike though! On gargoyles, here's something off a mid-19th century shotgun I have here. The metal is covered in freaky little critters like this one, most of them engaged with each other to some extent... Cheers Tinker

I really like the archaic engraving forms, and try to work them in sometimes, but gargoyles are not usually my clients first choice. Wha is the gun Tinker?

Mr H- I don't think that gargoyles and serpents and demigods are (or ever have been) the first choice of many folks who can afford the work. I definitely appreciate a good 'dark arts' scene though, and the fact that there are so few to behold makes it even more special when I find one that I can handle and/or shoot. The gun seen above is a 16bore SxS, was done by Ferdinand Claudin of Paris, over 1859-60, with hot-proof Bernard damascus tubes (has his maker's marks and proof numbers), and really nice piece of wood. The darkness shows up all over the gun. There are quite a few other little monster scenes scattered around the bank ribbon, I really like this gun a lot. It's the one that finally got me off to seek professional engraving training a few years ago. Cheers Tinker
