If the pics are not good enough please let me know.

what I am really trying to find out is, are these barrels 2 and 3/4 inch ?????? and what are the barrels ckoked for....?

the number at the back in the circle is 270 I think.

the other question is where are the proof marks for a Lefever nitro special ........there is nothing on the flats.....??

let me know if you need more.

thanks in advance.

Sean

I assume here you are speaking of the elongated C. If you examine it real close it probaly reads 12-70. The C stands for chamber & then gives the gauge & length of shell for which it is chambered.
The Lefever Nitro Special was built in the US by Ithaca. The US has never had an official proof law so no "Proof Marks" will be found. It would have been proof fired in-house by Ithaca. I don't currently have one so don't recall how or if they were marked to state that.

If it is 70 I believe that is 2 3/4. My gun marked 65 equates to a little over 2 1/2

Looks like a delta which would be a 1951 control (proof) date

The 18.something is the bore in mm
18.4 = .724"
18.3 = .7205"

you are absolutely correct it does say 12.70 inside an elongated C.

Thanks and I hope that means 2&3/4 inch chambers.

The barrels were made by Janssen Freres ( Janssen Brothers ). They were in business from 1927 to 1954.

The chambers are 12ga 70mm ( 2 3/4" ). The barrels were nitro proofed. The 1Kxxx is the weight of the barrels in Kilograms at time they passed proof.
