Michael, powder coating is the cat's meow of painting, aside from the 2-part epoxy paints. It's not as hard as epoxy but a good shop can achieve wonderfully smooth results and I wouldn't be surprised if this process couldn't also be used with the epoxies as well. I realize that painting is considered to be beyond the pale so to speak, but the epoxies and powder coating have raised the bar considerably in recent years. IMO you could do worse.
