I plan on attending a few SXS shoots this coming year. What are everyone's choice of guns? Not specific guns but setups for different events etc?
I would plan to bring a 12 ga and probably a 16 or 20. I would shoot any of the sporting clays events, skeet etc. not sure if I would shoot any trap? Just gets confusing when I look at all the different events are trying to decide what to shoot with what choke combos etc.
Also I'm in NY what events would be close that are must shoot events? I'm definitely going to the shoot the NE SXS Classic in PA.

I shoot a 7 1/2 lb Cashmore or an 8 lb S. Grant Weight is an asset when shooting a 100 round event. Dependability ,proper weight and ammo that does not kick you into a coma are important if you are going to use it for competition. I was shooting with Stan Hillis at the US Open a few years ago and some bimbo had told me the Gamebore XLR was extra light recoil. I bought a flat and 2/3 through the event I was near numb and a headache. XLR really meant extra long range and they were about 1400 ft/sec. Now I use only the B&P 1 oz at 1160 ft/sec and they work great.

I don't have any dedicated target guns. If my bird guns won't do it, well it just won't get done. The only reason I shoot targets is to stay in the groove for game shooting...Geo

As you might guess I don't waste much money on entry fees for competitive shoots. The only thing I ever "won" at a competitive shoot was a Browning o/u shotgun. It was a door prize*...Geo
*but I still like to brag about it!

At One event , I was shooting my Jones Lever, non rebounding locks 1873 vintage Stephen Grant, (with which I won the event coincidentally). I overheard one guy tell another, "looks like he is shooting a gun that came over on the Mayflower"

Woody, It depends on your goal. If you are a competitive shooter and wish to break as many targets as possible in an effort to win or place well, carry the sxs you shoot best, preferably an 8+ lb. 12 ga. that doesn't hurt you.
If you are like George and don't care, shoot whatever. But it's more fun to hit 'em than miss 'em. Tell that to someone who says they "only shoot SC for fun".
I enjoy competition and shoot two-three thousand registered targets a year. I really enjoy the sxs events and have a dedicated clays sxs: a CSM RBL 12 heavy frame, 32", btfe, pg, vent rib. It weighs 8 3/4 lbs, balances a little forward, and is just a clay killer supreme. JR

I'm partial to a 32" Poli Pigeon gun that I had outfitted with Brileys. Weighs abut 8.5lbs. With light shells you can shoot it all day without it knocking you into next Tuesday. Second choice is a Parker VHE with 32" barrels as well.

Woody, I shoot a gun made in your neck of the woods--a grade 5E Ithaca NID 12 gauge with tight 30 inch barrels. I use spreader loads when necessary. For skeet--a M-37 first year Skeet or one of a few 12 ga. NIDs with 26 inch open choke barrels. For trap--either a 5E or $2000 Knick.

Woody, I shoot a plethora of guns. .410 through 10 bore, hammer and hammerless, but my favorite are the AH Fox guns!! As for an event near you, there's a SxS event at Rock Mountain on Sept 3-6 that will have plenty for you to do and buy!! More info at www.rockmountainclays.com .
