Also, keep in mind that a lot of English chequering was flat-topped to begin with. Thus, sharp diamonds are not correct. If you can quell your need for speed, then I'd say you'll get a better result.

OP steinauge Sidelock Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 319 F.L	Thank you all very much.Kensal the checkering is worn enough that it really is hard to tell what it was like.I have several other english hammer guns I could use as examples I suppose.I can use the gun as is it just doesnt have any finish left so I thought I would rebrown the bbls,get the checkering recut and reoil the wood.By my (low) standards it is a pretty nice old gun. It can then be recut to original specifications and the stock refinished in the proper way. It sounds like your gun is well worth the effort - and the original craftsmanship is worth the honour.
