I have a W&S Scott 10 bore that is mechanically very good but the checkering is worn smooth.Does anyone know of a source for getting the checkering redone that is reliable and not too slow?

Sherry could hook you up. http://www.checkering.com/

On the right coast, Abe Chaber, Gunter Pfrommer, Larry Schuknecht could take care of you too.

If the gun is worth much at all, it will retain its character much more if you have the chequering recut by hand... not machine cut! Also, keep in mind that a lot of English chequering was flat-topped to begin with. Thus, sharp diamonds are not correct.
If you can quell your need for speed, then I'd say you'll get a better result.

Thank you all very much.Kensal the checkering is worn enough that it really is hard to tell what it was like.I have several other english hammer guns I could use as examples I suppose.I can use the gun as is it just doesnt have any finish left so I thought I would rebrown the bbls, get the checkering recut and reoil the wood.By my (low) standards it is a pretty nice old gun.

A strip of the old finish will tell a good stocker where the chequering pattern is. It can then be recut to original specifications and the stock refinished in the proper way. It sounds like your gun is well worth the effort - and the original craftsmanship is worth the honour.
