Comments on Refurbisment/Customisation 6000 miles South.
The Chilean market is small as regard to second-hand shotguns, in addition most shotguns of good old makes are of low grade (Mostly basic Win 21s, VHE Parkers or AE Foxes; same applies to European/British BLs or SLs). Most have been overused or plainly abused.
Good gunsmiths or stockmakers are scarse, overburdened and lacking in specialisation. There are some barrel assemblers but no barrelmakers. Springs, extractors and the like are obtainable locally though. Good engravers are even less common.
Given these limitations, most refurbishments go very little beyond simple lock repairs or stock replacements. This time we aim to go a little further, including the services of a local engraver.
