I've lurked here now and again. I've dreamed of owning a double rifle for years as I am sure many others have. Back in 2008 after doing some research I decided to send J White Gunsmithing of Guilford, Maine a Cz Bobwhite 12 ga. for conversion to 45-120-3.25 double rifle. His YouTube videos on converting shotguns to DR's as well as some positive references led me to believe I was on solid ground. After an excess of four years and 3000 USD later, I received the finished product shown below. At least he made a new mono-block and left the original 12 ga. alone.

Please don't make the same mistake I did.
Complete rubbish rifle. Please do not attempt to fire this dangerous appearing firearm. Such work would not even pass the visual inspection of proof in Birmingham or London, viewed at 10 paces.

Bushveld,

Rest assured I will not shoot it. A Proof House or something similar would sure have helped my case.

Can we assume you were shown photos or other examples of his work that did not exhibit this level of poor craftsmanship? You know... something that might make it worthwhile to try to recover your money in small claims court. It looks like he might have sub-contracted this job out to drunken baboons.
It appears that a settlement has been made thanks to the Maine Better Business bureau and the Maine Att. generals Office.
I can't come up with any word to describe it.Rich
You have got to be kidding that is a shame that someone would even think they could charge for that he should NOT be able to do another thing. That person cant have any pride. Sorry but what a POS!!!
That's just brutal.
things like that are what could eventually make the ATF say you can't do these conversions
Sorry about your dream being shot to pieces, but I'm sure that would happen if you did fire it.

It's a sahme what happened. My heart goes out to you.

God bless!

Greg
What a horror show...that shot of the breach end of the bbls..wow!
Those new lumps(I think thats what they are?).... & the hook for the hinge pin doesn't even look remotely round.
Did it actually lock up?...I nearly don't believe it.
I really hope you got your money back.
Is there more to the Story???....it looks so bad it nearly seems like a sick joke gun.
Thanks for the warning
cheers

Just to give you guys the latest. J White did finally provide a refund after I sent him a certified letter formally requesting it.

The Maine AG did provide mediation during this ordeal but had less luck contacting him than I did. The AG would not take any formal measures for a case such as mine. The Maine BBB can do very little to non-members.

I am now the proud and happy owner of a Sabatti DR in 450/400.

Eleeton,

Even though this is a crying shame, thank you for sharing your experiences. It helps steer others away from teh same mistake. If you went on what is on Mr. White's website, you wouldn;t think something like that to happen. All looks good on there.

I am having a 20g. SxS rifled slug gun built right now by a very experienced builder in the midwest. Oddly enough, in my search for a builder, I actually did stumble upon J. White's information and did place a call to him to talk about a conversion. I never got a return call. Good thing I guess.
