they are asking ~$600.

12GA, Twist, 28"

Condition seems Very Good, locks up tight, bores are bright-no pitting.

She's very well balanced, which is why I'm interested. But this means that I DO intend to use her. Also, I know the Syracuse is an old manufacturer with not too many examples around-so perhaps she'll hold and increase in value if I don't drop her in too many ditches?

is the price out of line? I haven't seen too many examples to compare in the auction reports.

thanks

Unless it is 'mint', too much money. Serial number may help. 'Minty' 12 ga. field grades need to stay 'minty' or they are just another 'shooter'. "Very good" is very subjective. What you choose to do with it is your business. I like to shoot everything I own as well. Weather and the harshness of the 'cover' dictate what I'm shooting. Perhaps a tight shooter in solid condition is what you should buy... or get them to drop the price, in half. Want to 'chat' SAC?... let me know.

Sorry SN= 281XX

I'd feel better about it if I knew of a reputable SxS specialist in the GA area.

sorry, what does SAC mean?

As I commented about the serial number, some added collector value could be added to transitional guns as they changed the design over time. Probably not with a #28k gun, yet I never say 'never'. Archer may help you with your quest if he sees this... somewhat local to you. "SAC" = Syracuse Arms Company. Most people just chuckle. Let me know. Good luck.

Lowell, I don't really want a "he" or "him" going off in my hands, thank you.

Unless it is in very good condition, mint condition, it is about $200.00 too high. SAC are well below the collectors radar and unless the gun is in top condition it is only a shooter. And you should find several suitable shooters in the $400.00-500.00 price range if you are patient. The demand is just not there on SAC. I have seen small bores for less than $600.00, which would never happen with a Smith, Fox, Parker, Baker or even a decent Crescent. OK maybe a Crescent.

Well.... you could have bought a pair of Baker 20's for less than $600 at Louisville... both shooters.

Offer the seller 800; someone has to be first to recognize that they have to appreciate to be appreciated. LOL

Sparky: Double Gun Journal recently did a series of very good articles on the Syracuse Arms Co. guns. They made some very fine guns but most of the ones that you see are "hardware store" class. $600.00 for a 12 bore is way too much unless it is mint.

Best Regards, George
