Hi Folks,
I've landed up here having trawled the internet for information on the above maker and their guns, I found a fairly comprehensive write up about the family history on this site, thanks.

I've had the below 12b come into my possession and I'd like to know if it's a boxlock or sidelock and does anyone have any kind of information regarding value of it, I'm not really intending to sell it because I have family connections to Ayr so it's a nice piece of family history to hold onto.

Any comments / observations welcomed, thanks

Box lock.
A nicely finished Birmingham made gun. Good engraving in the 'better' quality range. Without the flats and drop points of a 'standard' boxlock, I would guess it is a light weight, very probably intended for walked up game such as grouse (given the maker in Scottish) but equally lowland game and bunnies.
Value depends on much that can not be ascertained from photos so you need to take it to a good gunsmith/retailer, familiar with British shotguns and get it assessed and valued in the current market local to you.

Welcome. Now you get to chase down the details. From your pictures it looks to be a sleeved double. If not something you know about that is your first search. Pictures of the underside of the barrels will tell you what shells are appropriate. Before you shoot it do have it inspected by a gunsmith who is well versed in doubles. Don’t shoot Wallyworld shells in it. Condition looks very nice but the devil is in the details and only a inspection will tell you what you need to know. I would have the chamber length checked and the thickness of the barrel walls measured. If they are good, that gun should give you years of recreational shooting fun. It is not built for high volume shooting, like a K80 or PGun, but was made to be a nimble shooting gun, that is easy to carry.
