Unfortunately this type of art seems to be a thing of the past? Are there any artists currently still working in this medium?

I have a vintage Peters shotshell tin advertisement I'm sure is his work. I love it and have never seen another.

Art like this hits the very top of the cool meter for me. Just looking at it makes me want to load up the Setters, grab a Model 12 and chase birds. Wait a sec....check that, just got finished doing that very thing! :-)

Looks like a model 10 or 29 Remington to me.

Okay, so it's not a 12. Judging from the fellow's attire, the timeframe is late thirties to late forties - do we know when Fuller did most of his work? If that timeframe is correct, the Remington 10 and 29 were way, way out of date by then, so the nod goes to Ithaca. I'm not that familiar with the Rem 31 - is that a possibility?

It's not the brand of gun that matters nowdays. The guy is smoking a PIPE und das ist verboten in today's society.

I vote for a Rem 31. Mine has a forehand that closes to the end of the magazine tube as shown. My M12 forehand closes well short of the end of the tube. Those are my only guns with single barrels until I find the right single barrel trap gun.
I've also got the correct vest and hat, but alas not the dogs!

I don't know which pump that is but I sure recognize the mood of the dogs!

I thot of a Remington 17 [first glance impression] or a 31. Have not bothered trying to enlarge it .. no point. It certainly captures the moment before going afield and good bird dogs, irrespective of breed or breeding, KNOW what's going on and about to happen.

The particular art form & even the dress depicted may have gone out of style, but the happenings remain the same, thankfully.

In many ways the quality of a man's life may be measured by the number of good dogs he is allowed to associate with.

The new DGJ has an A.L. Ripley picture called "A Perfect Day" on pages 6 & 7; it looks exactly like a cover I used to hunt years ago with my dad, and I put up a good many of those shocks back in the day, when the farmers paid a dollar an hour or 25 cents a shock, whichever was less! Some good artists painting good pictures today (Chet Reneson, Eldridge Hardie, Pete Corbin and Rod Crossman come to mind) but none that I know of that are producing the lovely "magazine illustration" style of Fuller and others. Pretty detailed picture of that pump. Those other pics Drew posted reminded me of that show on the History channel about the dogs used during World War Two. That one crusty old vet with tears in his eyes saying so many years later, "Not a day goes by without me thinking about that dog"

I much preffer the A B FROST PHOTO, A man whilling away the day with his dog in toe and nothing on his mind but his special sxs in hand.

Looks to me to be an Ithaca m 37 corn cob! But it's just a guess on my part.

Drew's right it’s a Model 12, just blow the pic up you can see the take down barrel. Great artist that knew his stuff.

Hoof, I think the 'Bagged in France' one has a bit of artistic license; probably 'bought off a market stall' in France as the Picklehaub was long obsolete when the U.S. came into the First World War. Could be a Canadian maybe. Lagopus.....

Zoom in on the butt plate, don't know these well enough myself, but it doesn't appear to be Winchester butt.

Note, though, the window banner in "Bagged in France" bears a gold star.

I say a Savage Model 21 or 28 as I see the hint of a tang safety.

Note that the gentlemen is wearing a tie. Very few hunters that stylish these days!

I love this painting and the mood it suggests. The poor dog is sorta like, "Uh, WTF, that was a bird.........you are supposed to shoot at those so I can retrieve it...." but the guy is so content with being in the woods, gun in hand, dog at his feet, that he's fine just lighting up a smoke and letting one go....confident there will be more.

A Brittany would never bust a covey like that. That's Springer work! LOL

I agrre-and any man with the class and taste to be afield with three fine pointing dogs would eschew the lesser quality pumpguns of that era and opt for the "Perfect Repeater"- small pg and perch bellied buttstock would date it to pre 1935 M12, can't see the barrel markings but Winchester proof Steel would made it post 1930-- prior to that, Nickel steel (with the exception of the few stainless barreled M12's made--

Must be a small dog to fit into his toe- maybe a "dog in tow" might work better here-- And not all of us use side-by-sdies afield, I vary from 12 gauge Model 12's to 12 gauge LC Smiths (with two triggers, thank you)-- and if I do my part correctly, the big old "ditch parrots" drop to the ground leaving a big puff of feathers in the air- love to shoot pheasant!!

The gun in the picture is "obviously" an artists rendition with parts from many different pump guns of the era if you look close.....

Dead give away is the radius at the top rear receiver, which appears neither 20's/30's Winchester or Remington, but closer to Marlin or Win 97 in the world of pump guns............the magazine tube appears to be Winchester as does the magazine barrel attachment, the corn cob appears more Remington than Winchester....?.....and on and on....... ....BTW, only girls used .410's back then....

The print that Eugene Molloy posted, the first one with the pheasant, now that is exactly what Buzz is talking about hunting in the Northeast. Gun at the ready, then as soon as you take a break...........and there he goes!!!!
