Anyone received their copy yet? Bobby
They are apparently being mailed; I've received mine and so has one of my double gun buds.
I received my copy yesterday, 4 April.
I live in northern Minnesota and have not received mine.
Not in Delaware yet.
Jack K
Apparently the Pony Express out here in Kansas is running late again.
Not to the Washington/Idaho border yet.
Not to me in South Carolina yet
None in North Carolina for me.
I called them yesterday and was told they didn't mail out until 4/1.
Got mine and I'm in England!
Someone must be enjoying mine!!! Bobby
No DGJ in Maryland today, April 6.
My copy arrived to the northwoods of Wisconsin today. There sure is a lot of gold on the front cover, more than any previous issue.
Got mine today in Connecticut.
Got mine in the mail today, also in southeastern Pennsylvania.
April 7, arrived in western Massachusetts
The cover is definitely the most garish one to date. Surprised me at first.
Number of pages the now "standard" 157
Haven't had a chance to peruse yet, just a quick flip-through. Diggory Hadoke seems to have a lengthy article.
Seyfried's a falling block piece, I think (I told you, "quick flip-through!)
Bell's was a surprise. Subject is waterfowling. At one point shows a picture of his battery of waterfowling guns, Eight of them. Nary a one has damascus barrels. Also missing, and I could be mistaken about this one; any gun with hammers.
Now I want to read the damn thing and it's 20 minutes past midnight. I've gotta fight the urge and try to get some sleep if tomorrow is going to count.
Friday, April 8th. Postman has been here and no DGJ.
Reporting from just outside Toronto,Canada.
It just arrived today (4/8) in Colorado Springs.
Obviously my mailman has an interest in double guns. Maybe tomorrow in MD.
Think my mailman is reading mine as well and must be a pretty slow reader. Saturday came and went with no Journal.
Jack K
Same here. My next hope is April 11, unless that is a Federal holiday I don't know about.
Nada here on the Washington/Idaho border.
Mine arrived Thursday and I'm almost done reading it. Ahhh... life is good.
In reading the W. & C. Scott & Son article by John Campbell I was surprised to see on page 118 an illustration of the Scott patented Gas Check System and the caption mentions that this feature is also seen on other British maker's guns, the one pictured being a Holland & Holland, but no mention is made of the Scott patented Gas Check System having been used on any American made guns.
What a coincidence that on Tuesday, while on business some 1500 miles from my home in Massachusetts, I was fortunate enough to examine a privately owned Parker Bros. A-Grade top-action hammer gun with this exact same "Gas Check System" however no mention is made of it in the PGCA Research Letter. The gentleman for whom the gun was made however, was extremely well-connected in the national and probably international shooting community so, it is not out of the realm of possibility that he may have sent his Parker to England to have it machined in such a manner.
Well,i have an idea what is in journal if i ever get it! Bobby
Hey Guys,
Any other good articles? What else am I missing? If it doesn't arrive by Thursday I'm going to call DGJ, 2 weeks should be enough time for it to arrive.
Jack K
Well the Pony Express arrived this morning with the DGJ. Rich
Arrived in VA on Sat. Just flipped through quickly and noticed what may be a first - double printing of pictorial page near back in 'Dove Gun' article...

Arrived here on the Washington/Idaho border today. Apparantly there was a bit of a disconnect between what I thought I was saying, what Tom Archer heard, and what ended up in print on page 126. What I thought I was saying, or trying to say, was that Remington Arms Co. and then Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. were shipping more of their John M. Browning designed Remington Autoloading Gun/Model No. 11 per year than Ansley H. Fox produced in his seven years at the helm of A.H. Fox Gun Co. Not that Remington was shipping more autoloaders per year than A.H. Fox Gun Co. ever produced!
Got mine today in South Carolina. Nice article by Dig on Brit guns of the 1870's.
Best Regards, George
Brother Dave, you are indeed correct. I have no idea how I allowed this obvious and grossly incorrect statement "in one year" to be overlooked during my proof reading efforts other than sheer fatigue from attempts to meet the deadline. At any rate, I stand corrected and extend my sincerest apologies; and also sincerely hope that I did not misquote any of your other insightful comments. Tom

Hey neighbor, got mine today.

Mine arrived here in Southern Ontario today. I agree that the cover looks somewhat garish, perhaps even tacky. On another note, and I may be pilloried here for saying this: Ross Seyfreid's article is NOT about falling block rifles, it is about a Westley Richards, take-down bolt-action rifle and his hunt for a bull elk with it. Our magazine was originally titled "The Double Gun Journal". The title was changed a few years ago to include single shot rifles. I am told, tho not on any official level, that Ross had a lot to do with that change. Now he is writing an article on bolt-action rifles. What will be next, a photo of the latest "wonder-nine" on the cover, a la Guns and Ammo?
Don't get me wrong, I think that Ross Seyfreid is the finest writer of our generation on the subject of single-shot and double rifles. The Westley Richards which is the subject of his article is a wonderful thing. But in my opinion, it has no place in THE DOUBLE GUN AND SINGLE SHOT JOURNAL. 'Nuff said !!
Yup, got it in MD, the DC suburbs today, April 23. I haven't had time to read or comment. I'm sure it will be wonderful.
Nothing in MS yet. Riverboat must have hit a sandbar up nawth.
Mike
I live three hours from where the magazine is published and have not received mine yet!
Mine came today.
But it's tax season and working 14 hours a day means that I'll get to read it starting the evening of the 18th.
Work sucks when there's something important to do.
Nothing in North Delaware yet.
Got mine today in upstate NY.
Researcher,
When I read that Remington had produced more model 11's in one year than the Fox Company produced during their entire production period I was more than surprised.
Glad it was a typo that got through the proof reading phase.
I'll have to wait 3 months til the next DGJ when Tom Archer finishes the story on The Super Fox 20.
Jolly
"I'll have to wait 3 months til the next DGJ when Tom Archer finishes the story on The Super Fox 20".
JB:
I have no idea why Brother Dan decided to stretch that thing out over two issues; now I'll be spending the next three months wondering what other screw-ups I've made! Tom
Tom do not worry! You have written so many great accurate articles that we will let you by on this error. I still have not gotten mine! Bobby

Hey neighbor, got mine today.

It's Tuesday and I'm in Winnipeg. No DGJ on Monday so now I have to wait until I'm back on the weekend. Damn, I hate when that happens! At least if you and Ron have it, I can sleep easier knowing it will probably be there when I get home.
What an addiction/affliction we all have!
Regards,
James
It's Tuesday and the mailman has come and gone and still nothing. He must not be done with it yet.
Jack K
I got mine yesterday in Amishville, Pa.... Must be the speed of that black,horse-drawn USPS vehicle that made the difference ;-)
I ask my mailman had he finished reading mine yet and he said he passed it on to a friend to read!
It arrived in Kansas yesterday, a bit worn from the extra time in the saddlebags. Like somebody said, lots o' gold, but I rather like it.
Nothing yet here in Italy...
bbman3,
I think my mailman is doing the same thing as yours; passing it on to others to read first. Just have to wonder when it will be our turn??
Jack K
Well, it finally made it to the "sticks", down heah'.
SRH
Mine finally arrived yesterday. Great article by Tom Archer on the unique L.C. Smith. I do agree that the cover was rather gaudy this time.
11th here. Super article by Dig on actions. Shooting snow geese from my deck. Hope the yearlings hang around again this year.
Tom Archer has two great articles! Bobby
Arrived in NC yesterday. Do they normally ship in a cardboard box/sleeve? I'd rather get it sooner and simply wrapped in plastic.
Do they normally ship in a cardboard box/sleeve?
Yep!
Not in Houston are yet, called and was told to give it two more weeks
I called today (Friday) and was told to give it more time as well, because it was mailed late. Maybe I could rent one from someone that has read theirs 'til my mailman is done passing my copy around and delivers it!!!
Jack K
Just a thought, Jack, but maybe the Post Office doesn't know how to get it to Dela Where?
I'm good now. Saturday I got DGJ, Shooting Sportsman and Lefever Arms Collectors Assoc. news letter all at the same time!!
So I guess they found Dela where?
Jack K
Nice when it works out like that, isn't it? All this great reading material AT ONCE!
Jack, tell mailman not to deliver all of them at once! Space them out!
I'm just happy to get them. As far as spacing out the reading material that is up to me. The LACA newsletter (8pp) is like a delicious small bag of chips and trying to eat just one; ain't happening. Double Gun Journal and Shooting Sportsman are much more managable. I can read a story from one then go do something for a few hours and maybe read an article from the other and I'm good for a day or so.
Jack K
I received my copy on Thursday April 28th (yesterday) in St. Louis, MO. Seems a bit late.
